What is VSL#3?

VSL#3 is a highly concentrated poly-biotic food supplement product consisting of 8 strains of live freeze-dried lactic acid bacteria from the following bacterial species:

Why does each dose have so many bacteria?

VSL#3 contains 450 billion bacteria per sachet. It is important that a large enough quantity of bacteria is given to ensure that your gut is properly colonised.

Can I order for next day delivery?

DPD endeavour to deliver by close of business the following working day but may, occasionally, take up to 48 hours. Please note that we are unable to deliver on Weekends or Mondays and in some areas your order may arrive one working day later than your selected delivery date.

When will my order be delivered?

If you select our Cooling Gel Pack Box Courier Delivery option you are able to select you delivery date. Please be aware that in some areas of the country, your delivery may arrive one working day later than your selected delivery date. If you select our Ambient Temperature Royal Mail 24-48 hour delivery service, your order should arrive within 48 hours

Do I need to sign for my delivery?

If you select our Cooling Gel Pack Box Courier Delivery option then you must be in to sign for the parcel. Our Ambient Temperature Royal Mail 24-48 hour delivery service does not require a signature and can fit through standard UK letter boxes.

Will I be provided with an estimated delivery time?

If you select our Cooling Gel Pack Box Courier Delivery option, on the day of your delivery the courier company will contact you with an estimated one hour delivery time. It is not possible to receive an estimated delivery time for deliveries shipped via Royal Mail, however these deliveries do not need to be signed for.

Unfortunately we are only able to deliver to mainland UK (inc. Northern Ireland).

How should VSL#3 be stored?

To preserve VSL#3 keep it in the fridge. The bacteria have been freeze-dried and are live; it is best that they are kept refrigerated.

Can I keep them out of the fridge?

Yes, for up to one week without affecting the quality of the product. However, VSL#3 must remain at a temperature below 25°C during that time.

Does it matter that my VSL#3 is being delivered out of the fridge via the normal post?

No it doesn't. VSL#3 can be kept out of the fridge for up to 7 days. However, you must remember that the time out of the fridge is now reduced due to delivery time. Please put your VSL#3 in the fridge as soon as you get it.

1 to 4 sachets per day are recommended.

Are there any side effects?

Side effects are rarely reported and generally consist of bloating but this is understood to be a temporary effect as your gut adapts itself to the new bacteria.

The product is certified as Kosher and Halal.

Does it contain any allergens?

VSL#3 does not contain: gluten, crustacean shellfish, molluscs, eggs, fish, peanuts, tree nuts, soybeans, milk and lactose, celery, mustard, sesame, lupin and sulphur dioxide at levels above 10mg/kg, or 10mg/litre, expressed as SO2.

How long does it take for VSL#3 to leave the system after one stops taking it?

VSL#3 poly-biotic colonize the gut within a few days. However, as with other probiotics, they are not able to permanently colonize the gut and they are not found in stools 15 days after stopping VSL#3.
