Helps maintain the balance of your body's natural bacteria

What's in it

Active probiotic bacteria in your intestinal tract play an important role in gut health. VSL#3 contains eight specially selected strains of bacteria chosen for their ability to colonise the digestive system. Introducing:

  • Streptococcus thermophilus
  • Bifidobacterium breve
  • Bifidobacterium longum
  • Bifidobacterium infantis
  • Lactobacillus acidophilus
  • Lactobacillus plantarum
  • Lactobacillus paracasei
  • Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. Bulgaricus

To make sure they get to where they need to go, we freeze dry our bacteria so they only ‘wake up’ in the warmth of your lower gut.

Q&A

How is VSL#3 different from other probiotic products?

Most other probiotics only have one strain and up to 10 billion bacteria per serving – much lower than the 450 billion and eight strains you’ll find in each sachet of VSL#3. It’s the highest concentration on the market.

How does VSL#3 work?

The unique blend of bacterial strains in VSL#3 colonise the gastrointestinal tract to help promote a favourable environment in the gut.

Do I need a prescription?

VSL#3 is classed as a food supplement so it's available without prescription. You can buy it in pharmacies and online .

How should I take it?

You can take VSL#3 at any time, once or twice a day. Just sprinkle it on cold food or in a cool, still drink. It takes up to three weeks for colonisation to become fully established and this level will remain stable, if you keep taking VSL#3 regularly. But don’t worry if you miss a day. VSL#3 remains in your gut for up to three weeks if you stop taking it.

I’m gluten intolerant; can I take VSL#3?

VSL#3 may contain traces of gluten, so try a small amount first.

Does VSL#3 contain soy?

Yes, but just trace amounts.

I like curries, are there any foods I should avoid?

Nope, VSL#3 is generally compatible with any foods you ordinarily eat.

I’m lactose intolerant; can I take VSL#3?

Some dairy ingredients are used to make our culture, but these are removed during fermentation. However, there might be trace amounts left and for this reason, VSL#3 is not defined as a dairy-free product. To start, try a small amount and see how you respond before increasing to the full amount.

I’m on antibiotics; can I take VSL#3?

VSL#3 is compatible with all types of drugs, but antibiotics can make the bacteria in it inactive and reduce its effects.

What happens if I leave my VSL#3 at room temperature?

It should be fine for up to a week as long as it’s not heated above room temperature (25°C). If you leave a sachet lying around in excessive heat, even for a short period, will greatly reduce the effect of the bacteria.

What if I experience bloating when I start taking VSL#3?

This can happen, but it’s only temporary. Just reduce your intake until the bloating subsides.

Is VSL#3 Kosher and Halal?

Yes, VSL#3 is both Kosher and Halal.
